In The Psychology of Art, Les Vygotsky states that catharsis occurs when opposing forces meet destroying their original form while transforming into a new reality. Succeeding the catharsis is a release of energy like a breath of fresh air. I think all that was there is still there, imprinted in memory and reformed in a new reality. I use the opposing forces as a contrast defining the context in which the painting resides. And so it is how I look for where my spiritual being resides in humanity. How I work out my life is parodied in the artwork. A catharsis occurs when I make contact with the surface, evidenced by the release I mentioned above. At this point, the painting process has been self-serving and the transformation of myself, as a being, is complete. I have brought the question to the canvas and left its imprint. A recording has taken place.

The intent of my artwork is to invite you along on my journey and share in what I see, what I feel, what I sense, what I cannot put into words, and most importantly, what I have forgotten. This is the journal of my experience in life and how I work through it. How I reconcile my spirit being with humanity and connect the abstract with conscience.
